Hi all,

some of you asked me which microphone to use with the Weekender.

Apart for using any CB radio microphone (those are quite cheap) you can use Baofeng microphone as seen on this page.

Surely you have to make some modifications:

1. cut original connector from the microphone

2. connect Yellow wire to PTT

3. connect Red wire to + Mic Vcc

4. place 100 nF capacitor over + Mic Vcc and TX audio

5. connect Green wire to GND

You can use "Original Baofeng Speaker Microphone UV-5R" that you can find on ebay or in our shop.

Numbers on the schematic diagram represent numbers on Microphone connector.

Connections on the Weekender's microphone connector are like this:

4pin konektor na postaji

And as always, there is always "a but": not all Baofeng microphones have same wiring. See image below:

Baofeng1

For this particullar microphone I had to check which wire is which, so I had to look closely to the PCB:

Baofeng2

That means that Yellow wire (Mic+) on new Baofeng microphone corresponds to Red wire.

Green wire (Mic- or GND) corresponds to White wire.

Finally Red wire (PTT) corresponds to Green wire.

So photo of final modification is here:

Your Weekender should now work with simple & cheap microphone. In the next blog I will share with you modification to use speaker inside this microphone.
